Biography

Dr. Deb Erickson serves as the Level II coordinator for the nursing program. As an assistant professor, her primary teaching responsibilities are at the undergraduate level; she teaches a component of the medical-surgical content in the classroom and clinical areas as well as health assessment content at the sophomore level. Dr. Erickson is also a member of the graduate faculty and guides graduate student research. She co-authored and implemented a high-fidelity simulation on post-partum hemorrhage for junior-level students. Her area of clinical expertise is medical-surgical nursing, specifically caring for patients after surgery and those with diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disorders. Her current research focuses on barriers to physical activity in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus; she has presented the results both locally and internationally.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Erickson is the advisor for the Bradley Nursing Student Association and is a grand chapter judge for the Greek system on campus. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing, currently serving as president of Epsilon Epsilon chapter and as the program chair for the Region 5 Coordinating Committee. She is also a member of the Internationalization Committee for the College of Education and Health Sciences.

Prior to joining the Department of Nursing in 2001, Dr. Erickson taught in baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing programs in Illinois and Kentucky. She is a contributor to several nursing textbooks.
