Counseling Faculty

Erik Braun

Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, Counseling and Leadership

Biography

Dr. Braun holds a doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from Old Dominion University. After completing his Ph.D. in 2013, he traveled to Iceland with college friends and was walking on a glacier in Skaftafell when he received a call with a job offer to teach at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, where he earned tenure in 2019. As he began growing homesick for the Midwest, Dr. Braun fortuitously discovered that Bradley University — where he completed his bachelor’s and master’ degrees — had posted a job listing for an assistant professor position.

Dr. Braun provides students with experiential activities that lead to rich discussions that make the information in the textbooks come to life. He challenges students to apply the principles they learn to their own lives through self-reflection. His scholarly work includes a number of papers on counseling supervision and multicultural considerations in counseling supervision. He has also completed studies in other areas, such as hegemonic masculinity, scholarship motivation in higher ed faculty, and anxiety and resilience responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
